5 Tips on How to Impress Your Guests

    

 Let’s face it, as human beings we worry about what people think.  And most brides on their wedding day are usually preoccupied of not only feeling and looking their best and having a perfect day, but they also want to make a good impression on their guests.  They want guests to be comfortable, have a great time and talk about their wedding for years to come.

 

Tip #1- Choosing the Right Location

         Whether you dream of a beautiful beach ceremony at sunset, or having a horse drawn carriage take you up to a castle reception, choosing the perfect location will leave an impression on your guests.

      Anybody can book the local banquet hall, but it’s always those “diamonds in the rough” venues that will create memories.  These venue require extra research, and will usually not come up on a google search.  So how will you know when you’ve found the right venue?  When it’s right you just know, you will feel it in your gut.   While you are there you need to ask yourself, “Can we picture ourselves getting married here?”  If not, then you need to move on to the next location. 

     And remember not only should the location be beautiful, reflect your theme and fit your budget, but does it flow well with the events you would like to include at your wedding? And will it fit the number of guests who will be attending?  Some venues try and squeeze 100 guests or more into a space not truly meant for that many people and after dinner and speeches they will tear down the head table and take away a few tables away to make way for the dance floor.  I’m really not a fan of this practice and I’ll tell you why…

It’s very uncomfortable for guests 

Imagine you’re sitting there eating your cake and someone asks you if you wouldn’t mind to get up as they are taking away your table.  Seriously?  Where are these people going to sit now?  More than liking they will be insulted and end up leaving your wedding earlier then they intended.  Not everyone dances and most people once they have a seat claim this seat as their own and are very comfortable where they are.  Why ruin that for them?

Your guests should never see the mechanics set up/ tear down of a wedding

If you want to ruin the magic of your wedding day and the flawlessness of the event, have a bunch of black and white uniforms come in and start pulling things apart, clanking dishes and moving tables out of the way.

 

Tip #2- Personalize Your Wedding

      Every couple has a story that should unfold at your wedding.  How you met, your likes and dislikes, your quirks, traditions, beliefs etc.  Take some of these elements and find ways to incorporate them into your wedding.  Personalizing your wedding day will invite your guests not only to share your love, some food but also into your love and the unique relationship you share.  A wedding that truly reflects you and contains unique personal touches will ensure your wedding will be unforgettable.

 

Tip #3- Choosing a Theme & Ensuring It Flows Well

     Selecting and incorporating your theme is my favourite part of planning a wedding.  Your theme is the basis on which all elements will be created.  It starts with the design of your save the date cards or invitations, hinting to your guests as to what to expect come your wedding day.  It is also incorporated in all other elements from your venue decor, to the food, and the cake creating a harmonious flow in all elements, reflecting your own personal touches.

   So how do you decide on a theme for your wedding?  Ask yourself a few simple questions like what’s your style?  What time of year is your wedding?  Is there a certain period in history that you love?  Or maybe a certain type of flower? Or you could base it on your personalities from tip #2 (incorporating your favourite colours, hobbies etc).  Or perhaps you saw something in a magazine or on the internet inspires you.

  Tip #4- Fabulous Food & Excellent Entertainment

    The two major elements that your guests will always look forward to and not soon forget is the food that is served and the entertainment.  Not only do you need to ensure the quality of the food; you also need to consider other things such as will your guest be able to eat while having cocktails?  What time will the food be served to ensure no one is starving, and how will the food be displayed or served to your guests.  Shot glasses, skewers, chef carving stations or even an ice luge for chilled martinis can add excitement.  And to keep the party going great entertainment is a necessity.  (And no an iPod does not replace a DJ, don’t believe me check this video I came across on youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXj4P3iz2yg . ) Before booking a DJ or band watch them in action, do they respond to the crowd, and do they play requests?  A good DJ can be the difference between your guests leaving because they are bored or living it up until the wee hours of the morning.  

 

Tip #5- Benefit From a Wedding Designer 

     An experienced wedding designer has done all the research for you and has a network of quality vendors who’s professional experience and body of work will really add to the quality of your wedding and surely impress your guests.  

     A wedding designer will really get to know the couple inside and out, knowing what their dream wedding looks like, incorporating the couples personality, wishes and desires into the event.  We also find ways to really make an IMPACT that will just shock and aw your guests and leave them completely surprised and excited all at the same time.  These people will be so impressed you will never hear the end of how excellent your wedding was.

Ever since I was young I had a passion for the creative arts, and I have always enjoyed planning over the top events for friends and family, I just never imagined that it was possible to have a career in planning events. So instead I followed my love of biology and helping people and became a registered nurse by trade and worked on a busy medical/surgical ward for 5 years.
