Charm Care: Keeping Your Charms Looking Their Best

As you may already know, charms on bracelets or necklaces are very popular to wear and give as gifts. They have a long and rich history and have always held a special place in the hearts of those who wear them or give them to others as gift ideas.

However, like any other piece of fine jewelry you will need to care for them properly to keep them looking their best. Caring for them is not so difficult; however, there are a few things you do need to know to keep them looking clean and beautiful.

Removing Jewelry before Strenuous Work is Recommendable

First, you want to make sure to keep them safe. This may mean that you will need to remove your bracelet or necklace before you begin doing any strenuous work, inside or outdoors. Removing your jewelry is always a good idea when you are working at doing anything that may cause the jewelry to become broken, damaged or even lost. Taking the time to remove and safely store any type of jewelry you want to keep and take care of is wise. Doing so may prevent additional costs of having your jewelry fixed as well as reduce the chance of heartbreak when losing such items.

Never Use Harsh Chemicals to Clean Jewelry

Whether you are trying to clean your jewelry or cleaning some other item, you should take care to never use harsh chemicals. Harsh chemicals, even those that you use for cleaning the home or office can cause harm to some precious metals and gemstones. You should never expose your jewelry to any type of chemicals to ensure they keep their dazzling impression. While using household chemicals or bleach consider removing and storing your jewelry until you have completed the task.

Tender Loving Care is the Answer

Many times you can keep your charms, bracelets and necklaces looking their best by wiping them off with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth every now and again. Depending on what you are cleaning you may want to use a solution of mild soapy water to soak your jewelry before rinsing and wiping it dry. Another great tip, no matter what type of jewelry you may be cleaning, you may want to place a clean cloth over the drain to prevent losing any piece down the drain.

Anytime you are trying to clean a particular precious metal, you need to use a particular type of jewelry cleaner made especially for them. For instance while cleaning gold and silver jewelry using silver cleaner or gold cleaner are always a better idea than using the wrong type of cleaner. You can also find special made cloths for cleaning your charms, bracelets, necklaces and other fine jewelry.
